Existentialism

This blog is part of my Flipped learning  activity. Task given by Dr. Dilip Barad To open task link click Here .

It is true that Existentialism talks about the death idea but here death in the sense the philosophical death. Every day we wake up in the morning,do our routine work and end of the day goes to our bed.Apart from this we never  tried to think about existence that why I am here?Who I am? What is my purpose in this human world? Among the most famous and influential Existentialism proposition is Sartre's dictum. ''Existentialism precedes our essence'

My interpritation regarding this activity, video of 'Existentialism.

Video - 1:-  What is Existentialism?

In this video i understand the concept of Existentialism.Existentialism central subject is Individuality.and also freedom and Passion. Focuses on ideas that belive in God is Philosophical suicide.existentialist emphasis the subject of emotion, anguish and despaire.

Video - 2 :- Myth of sisyphus ( The absurd reasoning )

This video talks about Albert Camus view regarding matter of suicide. For Camus suicide is an individual act. For this he gave one interesting quote “An elegant suicide is the ultimate work of art”. He also says that ‘we are consent, here a dark side with the relationship between individual thought and suicide’. “Being too thing is beginning to undermine”. When start to think about absurdity of life, you feel like a stranger.

Video -3 :- The myth of sisyphus  ( Philosophical suicide )

Albert Camus says " Nothing more than feeling", nothingness, one thing is absurd. At that point we are differs from non-human creature that they have no ability to think that’s why they have no desire to fulfill it. all the pains and suffering we have just because we have feelings, emotions and mind to think rationally.

Video 4  : Dadaism Nihilism and Existentialism

Dadaism and Nihilism both nothing to do with each other. Dadaism and Existentialism both
as reaction of the war. We can say that the Dada is free of everything and making our own valus ,rules. Also way of breaking everything.Dadaism  was response to world war -1,and just as Existentialism was response to world war -2. Dadaism means to make yourself free from all values. This movement also becomes visual arts literature and anti art cultural work. In this video one quote is there that is, “Dadaism and Nihilism is nothing to do each other both are fading up everybody life and its ordinary value and that are where the similarity”

Video 5 :Existentialism - A gloomy philosophy

Existentialism consider as gloomy philosophy. It based on three main aspects anxiety, despair and absurdity. Existentialism is a gloomy philosophy because it is become famous after Second World War. At that time people ‘believe in god, finding a truth that is true for you, judge every value and choose your meaning in life. You should take responsibility and except the consequence of it’.

Nietzsche says that making up over own rules that is existentialism. Here in this video give example of superman, normally superman do nice things, but Nietzsche supermen do whatever he wants. Existentialism is stand for own self. One can do whatever he or she wants.  This idea connect with free from fear of God. It shows person as superman.person can do things without any fear of God. It gives freedom to choose your own purpose and value of life , making your rules and regulations. No universal morality govern us. It makes us free from idea of God.

Video 9 :Why I like Existentialism?  Eric  Dodson

In this video views of Eric Dodson on why he like Existentialism. we can say  that Existentialism is express darker side of life. Express notion like despair, anxiety and anguish.Existentialism is it appeals intellectual but it also has totlly evocative.existentialist much more straightforward. And also he says that honest shows reality of life, rebellion appeals in mind and heart and soul.

It effects upon our thinking.  It moves beyond self experience of life. It helps us to understand things powerfully and alive. It also connect with bhuddhism idea of compassion. Suffering is not our enemy but greatest friend. We learn more from suffering.

" Learning is a gift even when pain is your teacher ."

Video : 10 Let's sum up : Essentialism to Existentialism.

The crave for meaning. Meaning of things created by religion , society. We think that all the things have meaning but this idea is itself meaningless. According to Aristotal  and Plato everything has an essence including us. Essence give you purpose because you born to be a certain things.  Existentialism denied any sort of teleology. It means that God made the universe and world and us with any particular purpose in his mind. Existentialism based on the idea of " Existence precedes Essence ". It means our birth happens first and after that it is up to us to determine our self and crate our own essence.

  • Which video you like the most and why ?

I like video no 8  and video no 3. Video number 3 connects Existentialism with the Greek myth sisyphus. It describes philosophical suicide. In video number 8 reflects idea of Ubermensch . It means human being is  free to do anything he likes . It connected with free from fear of God. Human are able to do anything. They are not govern by idea of God.

  • How would you describe 'learning outcome' about this activity?
I enjoy fllipped  learning. It is an experimental key to learn. Fllipped  learning is the best specimen to practice to listen carefully. It helps me understand existentialism in a batter way. It also improves my listing  skill. Instead of traditional teaching through the board or chock stick this is something new to experiment for the student learning.
