Film Review: The Great Dictator

  • "The Great Dictator" was a Charlie Chaplin's first sound movie. The Movie was made in 1940.

  • When this movie made the time was between Second world war.And that time  Hitler was ruler in Germany. He was on highest position.

  • "The Great Dictator "movie focused on the situation of war.How politics and power both played vital role in war that we see in this movie.

  • Charlie Chaplin and Hitler.
  • Both had many similarities in birth date and month ,physical appearance, popularity .But both were different in nature.Hitler known as cruel ruler and Chaplin known as a great comedian .

  •  In this movie Charlie Chaplin was in double role.First he was soldier and another role played as a Dictator.Politics, social problems and Condtition of Jewish people we can see in this movie.

  • About Two world war

  • This was the story between two world war , an interim in which insanity cut loose. There are politics dynamics also played vital role behind the situation. Jew soldier fighting for the country . Identity of race make difference between people. Leaders of nation fighting and use people for undesirable things likes Wars. They seeds of hatres in mind. And provokes for keeping hate to each other.
  • The first half of the present century was completely overshadowed by two wars. And the post war an era of ' Depression and of want of an Employment .' which is the mark feature of time reflected in film.

  • Politics in Movie :-

  • This film  was the  best example of political satire. In this film shows how political leaders behave in front of the public. In this film Hynkel was political leader.  In his speech he  talked about motherland , liberty and Humanity. He was  whipping during his  speech. So It was all fake thing . People were control under him.He told to clap so all should clap for him. When  he said to be silent so all should silent. Also his different behaviour with other leaders and children. It shows that he has two different faces.

  • Hynkel was playing with balloon of Globe . It symbolise that how this political leaders think about others. They don't care about others they only wanted to  become powerful. So it was like a game for him  to ruled over the world. He wanted to became Dictator of the world.

  • Influence of Radio and Newspapers :

  •  At the end of movie when barber considered as a Hynkel and he gave speech he talked on liberty, remove poverty and equality. And at the end he adreseed Hennah. He addressed Henah on Radio .And Hennah also listen him. This way radio and news papers played vital role

  • In conclusion we can said that the movie covers every sides of life like political ,Social ,economical condition, behaviour of political leaders ,situation of war.So this way we can said that the movie was comic political satire

Thank you ....
