Sunday Reading: Interpretation of the Stories by Mahendrasinh Parmar

  • Hello readers,
This Blog is a part of Sunday reading task in which Dr. Dilip barad sir  keep on giving the task on Sunday to cultivate the thinking ability in students.
  • Postmodernism:
Does not follow on “from modernism”Has a different outlook   Generally less pessimistic Black humour return to satire.
  • The postmodern literary author makes use of comic elements to highlight the serious issues. Before postmodern writers, the other writers used serious and dark tone to talk about serious issues.A postmodernist author tries to break the basics. The postmodern literature is full of laughter, but the aim of the author is not to create laughter but to think on the serious social issues.

  • Here I would like to this  work is to interpret these two Gujarati short stories "Intellectual Indubhai" and "ISI No Haath" are from "Polytechnic"- a collection of short stories published  in 2016 by  Mahendrasinh Parmar .

  • Mahendrasinh Parmar is born on 2nd October 1967 in Naliya (Kutch, Gujarat). At present he is a HOD  at Department of Gujarati, Maharaja krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University.  In February 2016 he launched his two books.

  • 1.)            “Polytechnic”
    2.)            “Rakhdu no Kagal”

  • polytechnic" story book in here I interpret two story.

    1)  Intellectual Indubhai
    2) ISI no Hath

    1) Intellectual Indubhai story
  • Here the word intellectual is satire on Indubhai. Writer wrote real events with imaginative truth. With first attempts of the story ,it creates  impression on mind that he is really Intellectual. When we read story we came to know about reality.

  • Here are some contemporary events like Godhra riots, majority and minority fights, burning train etc.

  • February is cruellest month, which present modern satire on it.In that fight Indubhai lost his house  which was burnt and his all the books which was his best part of life.

  • After that he remember western thinkers name . So here intellectual mind is also one imaginative truth.

  • The writer has included names of many western philosophers, thinkers, critics. In a way he makes satire on Elite class writers. He makes satire on the theory of Charles Darwin about the evolution of human beings, that if we all human are evoluted from same species then why the society makes difference between the majority and minority, it doesn't makes any sense.

  • Contemporary events.
  • Here are some contemporary events like Godhra riots, majority and minority fights, burning train etc.  'Majority and Minority' and 'Burning train' the Post-Godhra riots come in our mind. This story is about the Post- Godhra riots in which many people lost their lives, mass raped of the women, looting shops, burning children and women.
  • One another example is G.S.T full form is GOOD FOR SERVICE TAX. It is really good for everyone. It is good for upper middle , lower class people who belong to upper class they can't effective more and who belong to middle class they rise voice . so here middle class people condition as like Minority.

  • 2) ISI no Haath.

  • ISI No Haath is story , it is part of polytechnic story book. At the first time we read this story title we can imagine it is like dangers story. I read this story then I understand here difference meaning of ISI.
  • I - Ishavar Dabhi
    S- Sharad Joshi
    I - Indrajeet Dholakiya

  •  There are character in this story. This story main message is which type people blind belief on dharma , only for dharma people make whole temple and eared money though God name. They don't think about any other human being situation but they follow dharma as like blindly.

  • To read the title first thought may come in our mind is that a terrorist group but actually the meaning of the title is the short name of the characters. The story about the one temple which is the cause of unemployment of the characters that the temple buy out the walk of life of the characters, and then this reason led into the crime.
  • there are three Ishvar and Sharad who lost their business because of the temple and one professor, his university's land turned into temple, so he could't tolerated this kind of land mafia works. Furthermore, policeman's son also lost his job because of the temple. So, every characters have anger towards the temple.
  • These all are that persons who lost their  business because of that Temple.
The son of inspector , who also lost his job only because of the temple.

  • Contemporary incident.
  • The temple is built on that soil which was given by  Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji for built University. Still in 21st century people have blind faith in Religion so they are in favour of temple rather than University. They are not think about education.
  • So these 3 person leave bomb in the temple and police find it. So he caught them and do investigation. All  three person presents their view on it and explain that how they lost their business.
  • They are ready to kill other people only for their selfishness. This is also contemporary event of the world that people will be ready to kill other only for self benefits. At last they are in favour of the temple and do corruptions.
  • The end of the story is very interesting. Because it has not the usual ending. All three person are now works in that temple who had great hatred for it. And suddenly S.P. Shinge disappears and media tries to find him.

  • so last we can say that this way postmoder write draw these kinds of social issues in literary work , With the use of Fegarative language, use of metaphors and the comic elements makes the story worth reading.
  • Many times people are  think these are not important things to be discussed or talked. Postmodernist literature makes use of comedy, satire and irony to highlight the dark side of the society and social issues.

Thank you ...............
